Joan Crane, 60, Loved an Adventure, Volunteered in Saline Schools

Joan Crane passed away Dec. 26, 2016, at the age of 60.

She was born Jan. 15, 1956  in Baltimore, MD. to Robert Byron Crane and Mary Carol Crane.  She is survived by her son Mathew Robert Lougheed, her two sisters Susan Crane and Nancy Crane and her partner Mark Lougheed.  Joan passed away after a long battle with cancer.

Joan graduated from Michigan Tech University with a BA in economics. After graduation Joan went on to open Aurora Yacht Charters that booked Caribbean and Mediterranean vacations.

Joan loved to travel and try new adventures. Joan went helicopter skiing in Banff, Canada and loved traveling to the Caribbean. Joan also sailed from the Canary Islands to the United States.

After  the birth of her son Joan became a homemaker and frequently volunteered at the Pleasant Ridge Elementary School in Saline.  Joan led the Saline Chapter of Destination Imagination, allowing numerous youths to gain skills in engineering, carpentry and acting.  Joan was an avid reader.  

A celebration of life is planned.  Donations may be made to the Saline Public Library.
