The family Robert Walter Cook would like to invite his friends, extended family, and neighbors to a memorial service on April 27th at Saint Paul’s church on Michigan Ave in Saline.  The service will begin at noon, and a luncheon will be served at the church, directly afterwards.  Bob died peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the age of 87, and he requested that the service be “short and upbeat”.

Bob was a lifelong Saline & Saline Township resident, born March 6, 1931 to Hazel & Walter Cook.  He was very neighborly and dedicated to serving his community with care.

Having lost his father at a young age, he and his siblings (George, James, & Sally) were raised by Hazel, Alli (their dedicated nanny), and the Town of Saline.

Bob graduated from Saline High School and Michigan State University.  Having been a member of the ROTC in college, he went on to serve the US Army, but not before he married his high school sweetheart, Mabel Marie Gleason in 1954.

Bob and Mable enjoyed 52 years together, raising four children, remodeling, expanding and improving Mable’s family home on Willow Road.  Besides fishing, he loved everything about gentleman farm life, and relished sharing it all with his kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews and all of their friends.

Bob had a long career in food service, and retired from Detroit Edison, having overseen all of the dining facilities that served the employees, from the executive facilities to the linemen, and all the support staff.  As one co-worker/friend mentioned “he managed people in a way that they never knew they were being managed”.

Bob was preceded in death by his parent, his wife Mabel, his eldest son Robert Davis Cook, his brothers George and James, and many friends and relatives.

He is survived by his children: Lauren Ann Cook, and her two son Alex and Andrea; Lisa Marie Cook (partner Charles Richard Marston, Jr) and her children Zoe and Zachary;  John Christian Cook  (wife Jocelyn) and their daughter Julia.  He is also survived but his friends and neighbors on Willow Road, and dear friend Susan Keezer.
