Thomas W. Riggs

July 9, 1937 – March 6, 2017

 Age 79, passed away at Linden Square Assisted Living on Monday, March 6, 2017. Thomas W. Riggs left his earthly family for the reward of life eternal with his risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Tom was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in May of 2015 and resided at Linden Square Assisted Living in Saline, since October of 2016. He had been under the care of Kindred Hospice since February 20, 2017.

Tom was born on July 9, 1937 in Ann Arbor, MI., the only child of Harold W. (M.D.) and Marie (Koenig) Riggs. On December 7, 1985 he married Bonnie J. (Hartman) Milkey in Saline, MI. Tom was a graduate of Ann Arbor High School and served in the U.S. Army for 3 years. Tom’s career was in banking, and he was employed by Ypsilanti Savings Bank, National Bank & Trust, and ABNamro. For several years he was the Finance Manager for Palmer Ford in Chelsea.

As a member of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Ypsilanti., he served as Treasurer and was actively involved in numerous projects in the Church. Following his marriage and relocation to Saline, Tom transferred his membership to Saline First United Methodist Church.

His hobbies included reading, travel, golf, camping, and a good game of Cribbage. He was known to be quiet and observant, and could often be found reading his daily devotional, praying with and for others. He treasured discussions with the Rev. Dr. James E. Tuttle, his friend of over forty years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Nancy Moehn of Ypsilanti, MI., son, Christopher Riggs of Phoenix, AZ., step-son, Brian (Noelle) Milkey of Saline, MI., step-daughter, Kathryn (Derek) Fontanilla of Portage, MI., and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son-in-law Scott Moehn.

Memorial Services will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church of Saline with Pastor Tom Zimmerman officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and again on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M. A luncheon will follow the service and will be held at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the family and envelopes will be available at the church.
