Robert D. Redies (Bob to all his friends and family), 86, passed away after an extended battle with congestive heart disease on Monday, May 6, 2019. He was born February 1, 1933 the son of Edward and Leta (Fenner) Redies. Bob graduated from Ann Arbor St. Thomas High School in 1952 and then entered service in the US Army where he served in Germany.  Upon discharge, he went to work, along with the rest of his family, at his Dad’s company, R & B Machine Tool Co. Inc., in Saline. On August 6, 1955 he married Elizabeth J. Redies who preceded him in death on August 30, 2010. Survivors include, sons Robert (Ed) and wife Karen, Dennis and wife Patty, Bill, Tom and wife Michelle, and daughter Lee Ann. Also surviving are his grandchildren Rob, Amanda, Eric, Josh, Sagan, Mitchell, Kyle, and Kaitlyn, sister in law Patricia and Nancy and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special canine friend, Max.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Douglas, Donald and sister Shirley (Visel).

Bob became President and Chairman of the Board of R & B Machine Tool Co. Inc. in 1974 and remained in that position until it was sold to Unova Corp. in 1998.  At its height, R & B employed over 300 local employees and was a premier special machine tool manufacturer.   Bob started the Edward F. Redies Foundation in the late 1980s to honor his Dad’s legacy. Notable accomplishments of the foundation include: one million dollars of seed money for the Saline Recreation Center, partnership with EHM Senior Solutions for funding of their Memory Support Center, the Redies Center for Rehabilitation and Healthy Living, and the Redies Outpatient Therapy Center, as well as gifts to many Washtenaw County causes over the last three decades. Bob was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and skeet shooting in his earlier years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew Catholic Church, or to EHM Senior Solutions of Saline. Envelopes will be available at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home located at 301 E. Michigan Avenue, Saline, MI where friends may begin calling on Sunday, May 12, 2019 between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Monday, May 13, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery in Saline and a luncheon will be held at the church.
