Ellen Catherine (Benner) Howard 78, a 44 year resident of Saline, Michigan passed away on November 27th at the Arbor Hospice.
Ellen was born on December 21, 1937 in Ypsilanti, MI to the late Margaret and Harold Benner. She attended St. Thomas High School in Ann Arbor, MI where she graduated as Valedictorian in 1956.
Ellen worked at the University of Michigan for over 57 years, much of that time assisting Dr. Edward Domino in the Department of Pharmacology. Ellen traveled much of the world with her husband Bill and her sisters, brothers in law, and friends. She loved her family, flower gardens, books, kittens, and she never missed a Jeopardy question.
Ellen is survived by her loving husband of over 57 years, Bill Howard and two children, daughter Ann Howard and son David Howard, both of Milan, MI. She is also survived by her two sisters Mary Lucile (Les) McCartney and Peggy (Joe) Clorety, sister-in-law Phylis Benner, brother-in-law Patrick (Laurie) Howard, and many loving nieces and nephews. Elllen was preceded in death by her brother David Benner.
Friends are invited to celebrate Ellen's life with her family from 6 to 8 pm on November 29th at the Nie Funeral Home, 3767 West Liberty Road Ann Arbor, MI 48103. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, November 30th at 11 am at the Nie Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may begin calling at 10 am until the time of the service at 11 a.m. on the 30th. A luncheon will follow the service at the Saline American Legion Post 322. Memorial contribution may be made in Ellen's name to Arbor Hospice and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
