Hope Cardwell age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Arbor Hospice Residence in Saline.

Hope was born on February 26, 1929 in Writtle, England, the daughter of Herbert and Agnes May (Little) Shaw. After WW2 she came to the USA and married Ralph Earl Cardwell (Veteran) and he preceded her in death in 1985. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Hope was known for her kindness, unconditional acceptance of others, and rarely if ever speaking unkindly about anyone. A 60 year resident of Taylor, she was well known for her love of flowers, birds and squirrels. A special appreciation for all of her neighbors and especially Virgie and Paul Biggott who treated Hope like family. One of the joys of her later life was visits with her English family. During the last 3 1/2 years of her life while living with her daughter and son-in-law in Saline, she accepted her declining physical condition with sweetness and grace.

Survivors include her children John (Susan Ericksen) Cardwell and Faye (David) Douthat. Other survivors include her grandchildren Joshua Cardwell, Danielle (Brenden) Douglas, Russell (Maria) Douthat, sister-in-law Dawn Shaw, nephew Andrew Shaw, nieces Anne Cowell, Julie (Georges) Sherman, and nieces and nephews once removed, Victoria (James) Cable, Emma Cowell, Sarah (Mark) Wilson, James Sherman, and Beth Sherman. Hope was preceded in death by her brother Cyril Shaw, her sister Betty (Len) Aves, and Stephen Cowell. Hope's family would like to express a special gratitude to the staff at Hospice of Michigan Home Care and Arbor Hospice Residence for their skillful compassion and comfort for Hope and her family.
