Having already lost to Dexter once this season, the Saline varsity girls' water polo team knew they were up for a tough game Thursday night.
The Hornets and Dreadnaughts engaged in a defensive struggle in the first half, but Dexter scored five times in the second half and the Hornets couldn't find the back of the net, as Saline lost 8-0.
Saline coach Katie Card said the young Hornets team needed to capitalize on a few scoring chances early.
"We had our chances early in the game, but we didn't hit the corners or we missed the net. If we could have scored a couple early I think that would have given us the confidence we needed to stay with (Dexter)," Card said.
The teams didn't give each other much room to move. Dexter finally scored in the final minute of the first quarter and then added two more in the second quarter.
Saline's record is 7-7.
