The Saline High School bowling teams had their home opening meet at Maplewood Lanes Monday.
The girls varsity team improved to 2-1 this season with A 28-2 victory over Skyline. The varsity boys fell to 1-2 on the season after losing 21-9. The junior varsity boys tied Skyline 15-15 but lost on a tie breaker.
The Saline girls edged Skyline in the Baker games, 127-125 and 125-123. The Lady Hornets didn’t bowl particularly well in the first match play game, winning 495 to 457. Skyline had only four bowlers. Saline was much better in the second game, winning 697-451. All State bowler Sidney Ohl led the Hornets with a game of 202. Wendy Szuminski bowled a 167.
In the varsity boys’ game, Saline and Skyline split the Baker games. Saline won the first 162-150 and fell in the second 171-162.
The Hornets fell in both match play games, 796-785 and 864-769. In the first game, Brandon Martin bowled a 187. Jacob Cornish (153) and Bill Poet (140) won their matches. Bill Poet (192) was the only Hornet to win his match in the second game. Martin bowled a solid 164. Sean Flavin had games of 162 and 153 for the varsity team.
In junior varsity, Saline and Skyline split the Baker games. Saline was strong in game won, with a score of 759. Gage Wiedmeyer (171) and Jacob Learman (194) led Saline. The Hornets lost the second match 703-562. Dylan Jurek was the high scored with a 151.
