Saline police arrested an Adrian man at gunpoint for possession of stolen vehicle Sept. 18.
According to the Adrian Daily Telegram, Brenton Charles Macintire was arraigned on felony charges of armed robbery and unlawful driving away of an automobile and is being held on a bond of $500,000.
A 26-year-old woman and her boyfriend had stopped for gas at Britton Gas and Grocery on their way back to Detroit after visiting relatives in Adrian. The boyfriend was in the service station and the woman returned to the vehicle to pump gas when the Macintire allegedly pointed a pellet gun at her and demanded to know if the keys were in the ignition. She said yes. The man allegedly got in the car and drove west on M-50.
Later that day a relative of the victim spotted the vehicle in Saline and called 911. Police found the vehicle eastbound on Michigan Avenue near Hopper Drive. The officer activated emergency lights and pursued the vehicle, which pulled into the Wendy’s parking lot and stopped, according to a Saline Police report. The officer unholstered his gun, approached the vehicle and demanded to know the location of the weapon. The suspect responded that it was in a backpack on the passenger seat. The officer holstered his weapon and handcuffed the suspect and placed him in the back of the police vehicle.
Police searched the vehicle and found a pellet gun, prescription medicine and other items.
A Lenawee County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived at the Saline Police Department to take custody of Macintire.
Saline Police requested a warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle and driving with a suspended license.
The Daily Telegram reported that Macintire had been using heroin before the robbery that day.
