Aug. 13 Saline Firehouse Chicken Dinner Raises Money Thermal Cameras

Saline Firefighters will sell more than 500 chicken dinners at Saline Summerfest Fire House Chicken dinner Aug. 13.

Firefighters will be on site broiling chicken in Deputy Fire Chief Charles Schaible’s giant grill. Half-chicken dinners will be on sale from noon to 4 p.m.

For $9, people will receive a half chicken, baked beans, a dinner roll, cole slaw and back of chips.

In the past, the firefighters have offered drive-up service in front of Benny’s, but construction may make that impossible.

Fire Chief Craig Hoeft said the dinners enjoy great support from the community, raising up to $7,000.

Proceeds from the dinner support fire department initiatives. In the past, proceeds have helped pay for a thermal imaging camera, an all-terrain off-road vehicle, winter EMS jackets and GPS systems for fire trucks.

This year’s dinner will help raise money for a helmet-mounted thermal image camera, which should help firefighters find hot spots in a fire while keeping their hands free.
