Police seized a 2000 Mercedes Benz and arrested a 58-year-old Ann Arbor man who forged a license plate sticker.

The man was arrested around 11 a.m. Oct. 6 after police noticed a strange looking registration tab on the man’s license plate and watched him drive over center on Industrial Drive. Police detected the smell of intoxicants and asked the driver to take a breath test. The man refused and was ticketed.

While the man’s car was being impounded police determined the tab was a forgery. The suspect told police he fixed the fake tab to the license plate because he didn’t have money for insurance and the secretary of state wouldn’t issue the tab without insurance.

Police requested charges for driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance and forgery.
