A 27-year-old Ypsilanti man was arraigned in 14A3 District Court on charges of domestic violence and drunk driving after allegedly attacking his girlfriend outside the Saline Rec Center around 8 p.m., July 28.

Saline Police were dispatched to the Rec Center after taking calls from multiple witnesses. The victim, a 31-year-old Saline woman, told police that she and her boyfriend were arguing on her way home, so she dropped her boyfriend off at her home so he could drive his own vehicle. When she drove off, he followed. She told police he attempted to “ram” her vehicle with his as they neared the Rec Center. She parked at the Rec Center. He exited his vehicle and tried to enter her vehicle. She told police he dragged her out of her vehicle and then struck her at least twice on the left side of her face, causing her to fall to the ground. Police officers noted her face was red, according to the police report.

Witnesses corroborated key elements of her statement. Two witnesses say the man drove quickly toward her car and then swerved at the last second. Police have video of the altercation.

Police arrested the suspect at the scene. He told police they’d both smoked a marijuana cigar and drank a shot of liquor. He said he tried to have sex with her, but she turned him town and they began arguing. The suspect told police that he did not strike his girlfriend, but that he grabbed her by the shoulders.

A preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol content level of .203 – more than twice the legal limit of .08. Datamaster tests showed levels at .18.

The victim did not require medical attention. Safehouse was informed

The suspect’s SUV was impounded and his license was confiscated. A pretrial is scheduled for 9 a.m.

Men Fight Over Bush Trimming

Police requested assault warrants against two senior citizens who fought over bush trimming along their property lines, July 2.

The incident occurred on Lawson Street before 5 p.m.

An 83-year-old man told police he noticed his 67-year-old neighbor trimmed a bush on his property, so he confronted him.

According to the 83-year-old, his neighbor became upset and punched him. He said he dodged the punch and threw a right-handed punch that connected, knocking the man to the ground.

The neighbor tells a different story. He said 83-year-old came to his property and started yelling about the bush before throwing approximately six punches. He said he lost his balance due to a foot injury. He said the older man then tried to kick him several times while he was down.

Neither man required medical attention.
