Saline Police Report: Identity Theft, Drunk Bartender and Vanishing Flower Pots

A 53-year-old Maplewood Drive man reported to police that someone stole his identity and filed a tax return in his name.

In April, the man filed his taxes using H&R Block software. The next day the software rejected his return. The IRS also sent a letter, generated before he filed his return, saying it needed more information to process the return. In June, the Michigan Department of Treasury notified him that there were several tax returns in his name. He received similar notifications from the Indiana Department of Revenue.

No money was actually paid out, but the returns included his social security number and other identification.

The Saline Police Department has handled many tax fraud cases this year.

Bartender Arrested for OWI

A 32-year-old Ypsilanti woman working as a bartender drank on the job and crashed into a parked vehicle at Weller's June 19.

Weller's staff called police to the banquet facility after a crash in parking lot. Police interviewed the at-fault driver, a bartender working on contract.

The woman told police she had one shot of tequila while working. A breath test showed a blood alcohol content of .18 more than twice the legal limit.

Delivery Stolen

A 34-year-old Arboretum Drive woman told police that someone a box of clothing from her porch June 7. The package was delivered around 12:30 p.m. and stolen before 4 p.m. The package contained $100 worth of children's clothing.

Flower Pots Stolen on Whitlock

A flower pot filled with flowers was stolen from a home on the 200 block of Whitlock Street. The 78-year-old resident who reported the theft estimated the value at $40.  The theft occurred in early June. A second theft occurred in mid-June. A 60-year-old Saline man reported that a flowerbox box was stolen.

Car Keyed at McNaughton and Gunn

An Ypsilanti man called police after noticing someone keyed his car while he was at work at McNaughton and Gunn June 17. The man was working the night shift when someone damaged the passenger side off his 2010 Dodge Avenger. The company's human resources director told police that another employee had his car keyed two or three weeks ago.

Car Keyed at Jac Products

A 23-year-old Milan man who works at Jac Products called police after noticing his car was keyed.

The incident occurred June 24, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Both sides of his Buick Rendezvous were damaged.
