Saline police arrested a 19-year-old Vassar, Mich., man for refusing a preliminary breath test June 6. A Saline police officer spotted two young males walking near Bennett and Lewis streets. Because of a recent series of larcenies from vehicles, police stopped to talk to the men. Police noticed one of the men appeared to have been drinking. The man refused a breath test and refused to provide his identification or his name. Police arrested him for minor in possession and took him to the police department for fingerprints. At the station the man gave his name. Police learned he was wanted on a Tuscola County warrant for a probation violation – with original charges of breaking and entering and unlawful driving away of a vehicle. He was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail and picked up by law enforcement officials from Tuscola.
Tires Slashed at Faurecia
Saline police responded to callers who complained someone slashed tires on their vehicles while they worked shifts at Faurecia June 5. Someone damaged a Ford Fusion owned by an Ypsilanti man and a Ford Focus owned by a Romulus man. A third vehicle was also damaged.
Phone Stolen from Vehicle
A North Harris Street woman told police someone stole an iPhone 6 from her unlocked vehicle parked in her driveway sometime May 27-28. The woman parked her vehicle around 9 p.m. and when she returned to her vehicle the next morning, the iPhone 6 was gone. It was an older phone with a cracked screen that her daughter still used to play games. A few spare lug nuts and $6 in cash were also missing from her glove box.
Wallet Stolen from Truck
A resident of the 400 block of North Harris Street called police after someone entered his truck and stole the wallet from his glove box May 22.
Generator Stolen from Truck at Tire Shop
Sometime May 16-20, someone stole a Honda generator from the back of a Comcast truck. A Comcast employee parked a bucket truck at Express Tire on West Michigan Avenue on May 16. When he returned to his truck May 20, the generator was missing. Surveillance cameras on the property did not reach the area where the truck was parked.
Stolen Christmas Decorations Replaced With Empty Marijuana Containers
A 61-year-old Clark Street woman called police to report someone stole items from her storage area and left empty marijuana containers in their place.
The woman lives at apartments on the 200 block of Clark Street. She said the apartment provides storage space in the basement of her building. Around the beginning of June, the woman noticed about $500 worth of items stolen from the area. Missing were Christmas tree, decorations and other items. She then showed police multiple empty plastic containers used to sell marijuana from a dispensary, empty plastic bags with marijuana, and a few lighters. The woman told police she had no idea where they came from.
Police also found Swisher Sweets packages all over the basement.
The woman told police someone also stole some of her outdoor yard lights and recently scratched her vehicle.
