Saline Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect who damaged a veteran’s wheelchair.

The incident occurred sometime after 9 p.m. Tuesday night and before 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to Officer John Belknap.

A Saline resident who lives above Dan’s Downtown Tavern parked his powered wheelchair where he usually keeps it, in an alcove on the sidewalk next to Dan’s.

Belknap said it looks like the suspect(s) took the chair, drove it around and then crashed it on the sidewalk just east of Dan’s. They left the wheelchair in pieces.

Belknap were able to reassemble the chair so that it is in working order, but it did sustain damage.

“While the damage appears minor, it rankles me to think someone would treat a handicapped person’s mobility aid like this,” Officer Belknap said.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Officer Belknap at [email protected].
