A suspect led police on chase through Saline and Pittsfield Township before escaping Friday morning.

Around 7:15 a.m. Saline Police Officer John Belknap stopped a white Dodge Journey at Michigan Avenue and Industrial Drive for improper lane usage. When officer Belknap exited his vehicle to speak with the driver, the suspect sped off.

The driver was described only as a black male. Another black male was in the vehicle, according to police.

Police followed the vehicle along Michigan Avenue. Pittsfield Police joined in the pursuit. The suspect turned south at Moon Road, went east at Bemis Road and north at Platt Road. Police lost sight of the vehicle near Ellsworth and Platt roads.

Saline Police Chief Larry Hrinik said the police report did not describe the speed of the pursuit.

Hrinik said police were able to record the license plate number and determine the identity of the vehicle’s owner.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
