Jesse Daniel Tolbert, 22, of Saline, pled no contest to charges of first degree home invasion, assault and bodily harm less than murder and malicious destruction of a building. All are felony charges.

The charges stem from an assault of a Lodi Township woman May 12. Tolbert was accused of breaking into a home on the 5700 block of Shelly Court. He allegedly assaulted a 56-year-old female who lived at the home. An officer from the Saline Police Department found Tolbert hiding in bushes near the home and Tolbert was arrested.

According to the Michigan State Police, troopers were dispatched to the area of Shelly Court and Weber Road for reports of a man pounding on doors just before 4 a.m. The victim was on the phone with dispatch when a suspect entered the home and contact was lost, according to a press release issued by Michigan State Police Monday.

The woman was transported to hospital in serious condition.

According to court documents, the official sentencing takes place Nov. 15.

His case is being heard in front of Washtenaw 22nd Circuit Judge Archie Brown.
