The 2019 Saline Community Fair is only two months away and the fair board and superintendents have been working hard to plan and prepare for this year’s fair which will be held August 28 through September 1, with pre fair activities on August 26 and 27 and rides only on September 2.

There have been several changes made for the 84th annual fair.  The fair board has decided to go green with their fair book and there will not be a printed fair book this year.  All information can be found on the fair’s website at www.salinefair.org.  For those without computer access a limited number of books or sections of the fair book will be available by calling 734-845-7710.  Take some time to look over the hundreds of classes that you can enter an item in, regardless of your age, and start working on them today or give those flowers and vegetables a little extra care to get them at the right stage for the fair.  From animals to antiques, arts, hobbies, home economics, horticulture, photography, wedding and baby photos to a talent contest, there is something to interest everyone.

Also new this year is the Saline Community Fair Ambassador Scholarship Program. It is designed to help high school students build their resumes by providing community service, leadership experience and a scholarship opportunity. It is open to all males and females in the Saline School District, as well as any eligible young person who resides within a 15 mile radius of the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds, 5055 Ann Arbor-Saline Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. Selection will be based on the application, resume and personal interview. Up to 4 ambassadors will be selected in a given year. Details and applications are available on the fair website at www.salinefair.org. Completed applications and resumes are due by Monday, July 1 to the Saline Community Fair, PO Box 423 Saline, MI 48176 or emailed to [email protected].

Over the past several years individuals have been less willing to compete in the Miss Saline pageant for many different reasons. Therefore it was with heavy hearts that the Saline Community Fair decided to discontinue the pageant. Many thanks to all the past participants and volunteers that were part of this exciting program. The fair hopes that the new ambassador program will inspire others to become active in the Fair.

This year the Boys and Girls Pet Show and Decorated Bicycle Contest will be held at the fairgrounds on August 27th.  Some of the livestock shows will also take place that evening since school will be in session. There will not be a parade in 2019.

The fair is very excited that Wednesday, August 28 will be Saline Schools Day. Activities include a Saline Alumni Gathering, the Saline School Clubs and Organizations Showcase, livestock shows and the Saline Schools Ag Olympics. Wednesday also features a special all day admission price of $5 for ages 11 and over. Watch for more details on this special day and all activities scheduled for fair week.

The Saline Community Fair also wishes to thank their many sponsors for all their support and making the fair possible. Please check out the list of sponsors and find more information at www.salinefair.org.
