Saline High School student Kelly Zielinski won her second Gold State Medal at the SkillsUSA competition was held on Saturday, April 8 in Grand Rapids.
Last Month Zielinski 's Prostart team from the South and West Washtenaw Consortium culinary arts program took gold in Lansing. Last weekend she earned a second gold as an individual competitor in cooking competition at the Amway Grand Hotel. Zielinski will compete in both national competitions, one in April and the other in June.

Each spring, ProStart students from across Michigan compete in the Michigan ProStart Competition – a two day event with culinary, management/entrepreneurship, ServSafe knowledge bowl, and nutrition/marketing components. Industry professionals, as well as leading college and university instructors, judge the different components. The winning team in culinary and management/entrepreneurship are sent to the National ProStart Invitational to compete against other teams from across the country. Thousands of dollars in scholarship money is awarded at both the state and national level.
The Michigan ProStart Competition is the highlight of the year for many students across Michigan. Teams met in Frankenmuth on March 12-13, 2017, for this annual culinary and management competition, hosted by the Michigan Restaurant Association Educational Support Foundation (MRA ESF). The Michigan ProStart Competition took place at the Bavarian Inn Lodge, Frankenmuth.
