The Saline Area Schools community is mourning the death of Heritage Elementary School fourth grade teacher Jennifer (Peterson) Miller.
She passed away suddenly Tuesday, March 21. Firefighters and ambulance were dispatched to her Lodi Township home at approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Peterson, 41, is survived by her husband Todd, and sons, Zachary and Luke.
In a statement released by Saline Area Schools, Heritage Elementary School Principal Laura Washington said Miller will be missed.
“Jen loved her students and had an incredible passion for teaching,” Washington said. “She will truly be missed.”
Saline High School Principal David Raft worked with Miller for four years when he was principal at Harvest Elementary School.
“She was always positive as a colleague and focused on doing what was best for her students,” Raft said.
Miller graduated from Saline Area Schools in 1993. On her classroom bio page, Miller said she and her family love Saline and are proud to call it home.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1998 and was hired by Saline Area Schools on July 13, 1999. During her time at Saline taught at Heritage, Harvest and Pleasant Ridge Elementary School. She served on the building and district technology teams, was a grade level chair person and served as social studies curriculum representative. In 2003 Miller earned a masters degree in the art of teaching from Madonna University.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home. Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m., March 24 at Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home, 301 E. Michigan Ave., Saline. The funeral service is at 11 a.m., March 25 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 122 W. Michigan Ave., Saline.
