Owen Budd Lowell, age 89, passed away peacefully in the care of his family on Wednesday, December 13, 2017.
He was born June 17, 1928 in Wayne County to Reuben and Carrie (McLaughlin) Lowell in the back of a Model T as they raced along to reach home in time. Owen lead a busy life as the eldest of 12 siblings, learning trades in all things mechanical, and being a help to his family. He could take anything apart, fix it, and re-assemble with his eyes shut.
On January 26, 1951 Owen and Barbara Salinger were wed in Ann Arbor. Owen served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco, California. As long-time residents of Freedom Township, Owen and Barbara enjoyed raising their family in the country with room for some dairy farming, gardening, and welcoming many friends for visits on the weekends.
After Owen retired from the Chrysler Proving Grounds in 1987, he and Barbara shared 25 happy years traveling throughout the US and Canada. They enjoyed visiting friends, relatives, and sightseeing behind the wheel of their motor home, creating treasured memories. Owen especially cherished the wonderful fellowship of many close friends he had come to know through his faith. He and Barbara attended several reunions of those friends from around the country who had also served in the military.
Owen’s faith in the God of Heaven was never shaken; ever the solid rock.
Owen and Barbara have four children: Denise (late Roger) Stovall, Mark (Marilyn Feldkamp) Lowell, Douglas Lowell and Richard Lowell. Cherished grandchildren Jessica and Dana, Jacqueline and Madaline, Yvonne and Erica. Great grandchildren Bailey, Karter, Kaydyn, Austin, and Autumn. Owen was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Evon, Don, Marvin, Jane, Ruth, Jeannette, and David. He is survived by his sisters Florence, Edna, Joyce, and Ellen, as well as many nieces and nephews.
