Baldus Shuts Out Woodhaven, Enners Hits 2 Home Runs

WOODHAVEN- Senior Emily Baldus threw a four-hit shutout and Amanda Enners hit two homeruns as Saline defeated Woodhaven 7-0 on opening day.

Enners, Kelsey Alexander and Olivia Darmos each had three hits for Saline.

Saline gained control of the game in the first inning. Alexander singled and took second on a bunt by Ashley Heren. One out later, Darmos singled to score Alexander. Enners followed with a home run to right-center field.  Saline led 3-0.

The Hornets scored again in the fourth. Evans and Alexander started the inning with singles. Hayley Evans scored on Brooke Bauer’s infield ground out.

Saline put Woodhaven away with three runs in the seventh. With two out, Darmos doubled. Enners followed with a home run to center. Emma Schwartzenberger singled. She scored when the Woodhaven rightfielder dropped Anna Jo Stuart’s pop-up.

Baldus struck out the game’s final batter for the shutout. She struck out seven and walked none.

The Hornets made three errors in the field.

Saline plays a doubleheader at Carlson Saturday.
