The Saline JV hoops squad played four solid quarters of basketball Thursday night at Saline High School, defeating the Jackson Vikings’ JV squad 71-40, raising their record to 4-1.
The Vikings scored their first two points of the quarter at the 6:21 mark and managed to score one more point for the rest of the quarter. Saline played very aggressive on defense, forcing Jackson into 9 first quarter turnovers, and jumping out to a 21-3 lead.
Saline JV Coach Jason Pickett pulled all five starting players for the entire second quarter and the Hornet bench managed to outscore Jackson 18-8 in the second quarter to take a 39-11 lead into the locker room at the half.
The starting five returned to the court in the third quarter and picked up right where they left off, outscoring the Vikings 18-10 to take a commanding 57-21 lead into the final eight minutes of play. The third quarter featured the strong play of sophomore forward Joshua Koch who scored six of his ten points and grabbing four rebounds, including three offensive rebounds which he converted into points.
Following the game, Coach Pickett praised the total team effort displayed throughout the game. “We have played two days of really good basketball. Tonight, every player on the team scored,” Pickett said.
“We really are on our game when everyone involves everyone in the play. The guys did that tonight well. We will be very tough to beat when we play like this.”
The JV squad will get back into action when they host the Bedford Kicking Mules. Tip off time is 5:30 p.m., Tuesday
