The Saline varsity girls basketball team shook off foul trouble and a tough Monroe zone defense and scored 34 points in the second half to defeat the Trojans, 51-30, at home Friday night.
The Hornets, ranked 7th in Division 1, improved to 10-1 overall and 2-1 in the SEC Red.
Ella Stemmer led the Hornets with 16 points despite spending considerable time on the bench with foul trouble. She also had four rebounds and two steals. Steffi Bentley, who was also in early foul trouble, scored 14 points and had seven rebounds and three blocks.
Amera Boyd had a season-high nine points and grabbed a couple rebounds to go with three steals. Liz Sekerak spent the night guarding Monroe's top scorer and shut her down. Sekerak had five steals, two blocks and two assists.
