LIVONIA – The Saline varsity girls basketball team improved to 2-0 with a 65-42 victory at Livonia Stevenson Friday.
Saline jumped to a 16-7 first quarter lead and never looked back.
Ella Stemmer led the Saline attack with 14 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two assists. Nicole Sweetland scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds and had four assists. Maddy Welch and Liz Sekerak each scored nine points, with Welch grabbing four rebounds and Sekerak adding three rebounds, three steals and three assists.
10 different Hornets scored and all 13 contributed, coach Leigh Ann Roehm said.
“Our depth was key again,” Roehm said.
Stevenson played a physical brand of basketball.
“I was proud of how the team responded to the physicality of the game. We made our opportunities at the line count, sinking 29 free throws. I am very proud of their effort,” Roehm said.
The Hornets are home to Dexter Tuesday. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m.
JV Hornets Win in Overtime
Saline defeated Livonia Stevenson, 37-35, in overtime Friday. The game was tied at 28 through four quarters. Saline rallied for 11 points in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime.
Ella Dean scored nine points for Saline. Abby Zambeck (7), Brielle Eugeni (6), Natalie Sweetland (6), Ashtyn Mosigno (5), Reggie Duerst (2) and Taylor Yaklich (2) also scored for Saline.
