Saline keeper Julia Bentley stopped nine shots as Saline shut out Marian, 2-0.

Saline scored two early goals and held on to defeat host Marian, 2-0, in Division 1 Field Hockey action Thursday evening.

Erin Reilly and Hannah Jarvie scored for Saline in the first five minutes of the contest. Julia Bentley stopped nine shots for the shutout.

Less than three minutes into the game the Hornets scored on a penalty corner. Bridget Skelly inserted the ball. Ally Groth passed inside the scoring circle to Erin Reilly, who lifted the goal past the Marian keeper for the 1-0 lead.

Two minutes later, Jarvie scored when she banged home a rebound off the keeper’s pads.

Marian turned up the heat on the Saline defense. But the unit of Shae Murphy, Caroline Krause, Erin Reilly, Fiona Morcom and goalie Julia Bentley thwarted numerous scoring attempts.

Saline has its home opener against Mercy at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
