The Saline varsity girls tennis team won the SEC Red Tournament Wednesday at Saline High School. It’s believed to be the Hornets’ first SEC Red championship in over 15 years.

Jenny Wolf was champion in fourth flight in singles. In doubles, Aly Heider and Zoe Ellsworth were champions in the first flight and Saige Jost and Megan Foley won in the second flight.

Saline finished with 30 points – three more than Pioneer. Skyline was third with 26 points and Huron was fourth with 21 points. Bedford, 11 points, and Monroe, 1 point, also competed.

Wolf’s championship victory over her Pioneer rival figured huge in final scoring.

Carly Hiner was runner-up in the singles third flight.

Madison Caldwell also had a hard-fought victory over a Pioneer rival to help Saline’s cause.

The Saline Post went back through archives of the Saline Reporter as far back as 1997 and could not find a reported SEC Tourney victory.

The Hornets now prepare to compete in the state tournament.
