GOLF: Woods Qualifies for Finals as Saline Team Narrowly Misses Chance to Move On

Saline High School junior Jake Woods qualified for the state finals tournament as the Hornets competed at the regional Wednesday at Polo Fields Golf and Country Club in Ann Arbor.

Woods shot an 80 to tie for eighth and take the third and final individual qualifying spot for the state tournament.

The Hornets, meanwhile, finished three strokes off qualifying for the state tournament as a team. Saline finished fourth in the 18-team regional with a score of 331 – three back of Plymouth. Skyline won the regional with a score of 311. Pioneer was second at 315.

Woods led the Hornets with an 80. Sophomore Josh Finn was one stroke back at 81. Senior Grant Terris shot 83. Senior Alex Birkle shot 87. Junior Tim Wageman shot 93.

The state finals take place June 8-9 at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University.
