Saline captain Alex Birkle scored what proved to be the winning goal against Dexter.

Saline scored three first period goals and outshot Dexter, 35-9, but were forced to hang on for a 3-2 victory Tuesday at the Ice Cube.

Saline improved to 15-1.

Dexter opened the scoring with a powerplay goal 4:27 into the game.

Saline replied with three goals in less than four minutes. First it was Connor Wright scoring from Ben Wild. Less than a minute later, Brendan Murphy finished a nice pass from Mikhail Lozovyy to give Saline the lead. Three minutes later, captain Alex Birkle scored from Logan Dejanovich and Mason Ausmus.

Saline peppered the Dexter goalie with nine shots in the second period, but couldn't score.

In the third, Dexter scored 2:42 into the action. Saline fired 18 shots in the third period but couldn't score.

The Hornets play Pioneer at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
