TEMPERANCE – Saline defeated Bedford 67-59 in a game that required overtime at Bedford High School Tuesday night.
Calder Pellerin led the Saline attack with a season-high 24 points. He was 13-of-16 from the stripe. Justin Zylstra added 15 points for the Hornets. Emmett Turner also scored nine points for Saline, which posted a season-high in 67 points and also gave up a season-high 57 points.
Max Birmingham and Jason Wiemer led Bedford with 16 points and Josh Long scored 15 for Bedford.
The Hornets held the Mules to just 3 first-quarter points. Saline has given up just five points in the first quarters of their last two games. Led by 8 points from Zylstra, Saline led 13-3 after the first quarter. Both teams scored 11 points in the second quarter, with Zylstra and Sean Millspaugh making three-pointers for Saline.
Bedford closed the gap in the third quarter, scoring 19 points. Pellerin led the Hornets with six points in the third quarter. Saline led 37-33 to start the fourth. Bedford scored another 19 points in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 52. Pellerin scored seven points for Saline in the fourth quarter.
The Hornets outscored Bedford 15-7 in the overtime period. Pellerin scored nine points in the overtime. Jake Finkbeiner scored all of his four points in the extra frame. Turner also scored a couple of points on free throws. Saline shot 7-for-10 from the free throw line in overtime.
Saline, which has won four straight games, improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the SEC Red. Saline hosts Novi Tuesday.
