Saline junior Lauryn Hunt won the 200 and 400-meter races to help the Hornets to a second place finish at the SEC Red meet held at Monroe High School Friday.

Saline finished with 132 points. Pioneer won with 170 points. Skyline was right behind Saline at 130 points. Bedford, 60.5, Huron, 53, and Monroe, 51.5, made up the rest of the scoring.

Hunt wasn't Saline's only winner. Greta Downey won the long jump by leaping 16-9.5 - nine and a half inches better than the second place finisher from Bedford.

Hunt won the 200 in 25.95 seconds - .02 seconds faster than Skyline freshman Alexys Wilson. Juniors Amera Boy, 27.2, and Suzanne Chuparkoff, 28.16, placed sixth and ninth.

Hunt's win the 400 was nearly as dramatic. She won in 58.38 - .07 seconds faster than Pioneer freshman Mya Georgiadis. Distance runner Kayla Fortino finished fourth in 1:01.56 - a personal best. Freshman Taylor Yalich was ninth, 1:02.76, and Chuparkoff was eighth, 1:02.81.

In the 100 dash, Boyd and Hunt took second and third, behind Huron's Fatouma Conde, who won in 12.62. Boyd was .04 seconds behind and Hunt was .06 seconds behind. Downey placed 10th in 13.36 seconds.

Freshman Madison Wood was second in the 800 meters (2:21.82). Ella Woehlke, 2:26, Katelyn Szafranski (2:29.71) and Emma Cummings (2:31.35) finished fifth, seventh and eighth, respectively.

Wood was fourth in the 1600 meters in 5:10.57. Also finishing in the top 10 were Madeline Stewart (6th, 5:25.27), Nicole Dillmann (8th, 5:28.37), and Haley Greene (9th, 5:30.2).

Fortino ran to a third place finish in the 3200 meters in 11:20.14. Also finishing in the top 10 were Madison Stern (6th, 11:39.91), Dillman (8th, 11:52.39), and Jenna Allman (9th, 11:53.13).

Tenley Schrzan (9th, 18.14) and Molly Finegan (10th, 18:34) ran in the 100 hurdles. Schrzan (7th, 51.32) and Kaitlyn Paskiewicz (10th, 55.82) ran in the 300 hurdles.

The 800, 1600 and 3200 relay teams each placed second. The 400 relay team placed fourth.

Downey was the story in the feld. Her leap of 16-9.5 easily won the event. Sophomore Bryan Batten leaped 15-8 to finish fourth.

Charlotte Peterson (4th, 9-0), Elise Renberg (5th, 8-7) and Jessica Sizemore (8th, 8-1) competed in the pole vault. Lillian Fleming placed in the top 10 in high jump, clearing 4'9 to place eighth.

In the shot put, Morgan Boze threw 28-7 to take ninth. Ahsley Hannah threw 84-4 in the discus to finish eighth.
