Late Rally Costs Saline Girls LAX

Saline senior Quinn Alexis scored three goals and assisted on three others..

East Lansing scored three unanswered goals late in the second half to defeat Saline, 9-8, in varsity girls’ lacrosse action at Saline High School.

Quinn Alexis and Anna LeChard each scored three goals. Alexis also had three assists. Abby Morton and Grace Livesey also scored for Saline.

The Hornets spent the first half playing catchup.  East Lansing scored two goals in the opening 3:42.

Livesey got Saline on the scoreboard with a 10-yard shot after an East Lansing penalty at 5:40. Less than two minutes later, Alexis found LeChard in front of the goal and LeChart fired it in the net to tie the score.

At 11:32,  East Lansing went up 3-2. After five goals in the first 10 minutes, the two teams went scoreless for almost eight minutes. LeChard took a pass from Kaleigh Riggs and scored from the front of the goal at 18:12 to tie the score.

A little more than three minutes later, East Lansing took the lead on a penalty shot. With 2:08 left in the half, East Lansing scored again for a 5-3 lead.

Alexis made it a goal game with a minute to play in the half, circling from behind the net and shooting the ball into the goal.

East Lansing led 5-4 at halftime.

Morton tied the game off the opening faceoff in the second half, collecting the ground ball and then running all the way in and scoring.

East Lansing scored at 4:05 to take a 6-5 lead.

Less than a minute later, Alexis circled from behind the net and scored to tie the game at 6. Alexis scored again at 9:29 to give Saline the lead for the first time. At 13:53, LeChard scored again for an 8-6 advantage.

East Lansing won the next faceoff and scored just 13 seconds after Saline’s goal.

Saline had several possessions to pad its one-goal lead but couldn’t find the back of the net. With about six minutes to play, a stray pass in East Lansing’s zone turned into a dangerous rush and East Lansing tied the game with 5:51 to play. A little more than a minute later, East Lansing scored again to regain their lead, 9-8.

Saline had several chances to tie the game. With a little less than a minute later, Morton screamed down the right wing and fired a rocket that bounced that beat the goalie but bounced off the goalpost.
