The third annual Volvik Championship, located at Travis Pointe Country Club, wrapped on Sunday, May 27. It is not only an honor for Travis Pointe Country Club to host the Volvik Championship, but an honor for the city of Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, and the state of Michigan. This year’s tournament brought much excitement from the fans, beautiful weather, and hunger to win from the players.
The Volvik Championship and Travis Pointe Country Club received high remarks from the players, spectators, and volunteers alike; however, much of the buzz during the tournament surrounded the food served, the attractive grounds, and the professionalism and kindness of the staff. Executive Chef William P. Collins, C.E.C. (pictured on the right with Olympic medalist Han Lee (center) and Chris Peterson (left)) and his staff have offered an exquisite food experience to LPGA players three years running. In a 2016 interview, leading golfer Christina Kim labeled it as “…the best [food] we’ve had all year long” and golfer Danielle Kang to share, “The food’s amazing” in a post-tournament interview this year. Similarly, many of the players commented on course conditions in interviews throughout the Volvik Championship. Ann Arbor native and LPGA player Jennifer Song shared her thoughts on the course during an interview saying that “the golf course is great.” In addition to this excellent feedback, this year’s winner, Minjee Lee of Australia, commended the club and its staff saying, “…it’s a very great atmosphere. The golf course is always in pretty nice conditions and everyone out here is so nice…” All employees should be proud of their hard work during a busy week.
The tasty dining options, course conditions, and excellent staff continuously makes the Volvik Championship and Travis Pointe Country Club a favorite stop on the LPGA tour. Chef Bill would like to stress that the successful week would not have been possible without his staff or Paul Tsai, sushi chef at Godaiko, a local restaurant. He was thrilled to have the opportunity to, once again, provide food for the players.
