The Saline Hornets won the 13U Indiana AA World Series last weekend.
The Hornets, coached by Scott Tousa and assistants Mike Muir and Rod Conley, were undefeated in the double elimination tournament until they reached the championship. Saline lost to the Kentucky Vipers. That set up a winner-takes-all championship game that began at 10 p.m. Sunday night.
Saline won 3-2.
Of the 11 Hornets, 10 are rising eighth graders at Saline Middle School. They are Roman Laurio, Jackson Muir, Tate Bezeau, CJ Carr, Cade Tousa, Zach Fidh, Marco Morrison, Sam Miller, Garrett Baldwin and Jackson Conley. Ann Arbor's Will Kremer also played for the Hornets.
CJ Carr pitched a complete-game two-hitter in the championship game.
Kentucky took an early 1-0 lead but the Hornets tied it. The Hornets scored two runs in the top of the seventh. Kremer singled and took second on an error. Tousa bunted him over to third. Baldwin hit a line drive past the rightfielder to score Kremer and then scored himself.
In the bottom of the seventh, Kentucky scored a run to make it 3-2. They had a runner on first when Carr got the last out on a great catch by Roman Laurio in centerfield.
The Hornets won the AA Michigan championship three weeks ago and play for the Michigan World Series this weekend.
