Saline Sends 5 Gymnasts to State Meet

The Saline gymnastics team qualified five athletes for the MHSAA individual finals, held March 10 at Rockford High School. The athletes qualified while competing at the regional held Saturday at Plymouth High School.

Senior Lisa Heider was won the bars to become regional champion. She scored 8.9. Senior Sarah Finkiewicz placed sixth on the bars with a score of 8.525 to earn all-regional honors.

Sophomore Sarah McLaughlin placed eighth on the vault, 8.825, and eighth on the floor, 8.75, to earn all region honors. Sophomore Megan Mulligan was fifth on the beam, 9.0, and earned all region honors. Sophomore Charlotte Peterson was seventh on the floor, 9.15, and also earned all region honors.

The girls can earn all-state honors by finishing in the top 10 in their events next week.

As a team, Saline finished sixth with 137.05 points -- although they were less than a point back of Canton and Tecumseh. Livonia Blue, Plymouth and Salem qualified for team states.
