Saline bounced from their season-opening loss and crushed Tecumseh, 16-9, in the second game of their double header at Tecumseh Wednesday.
The Hornets dropped the opener, 6-2.
Alex Pace took the loss, giving up six runs on eight hits and three walks. She struck out four.
Saline jumped to a 1-0 lead with a walk by Ashley Heren. She stole second and then scored on a line single by Brooke Bauer. Tecumseh answered with four runs in the bottom of the second on a double, single, fielder’s choice and home run.
Saline added a run in the fourth. Emma Schwartzenberger singled to center to lead off. She stole second and then scored on a sing by Dani Cobello. Tecumseh added two more in the sixth.
Makenzie Marion, Isabella Darmos, and Katie Bauer also had hits for Saline.
Saline exploded for 16 runs in the nightcap, which was called after five innings. Saline scored 16 runs on 17 hits. Saline jumped out of the gate with 11 runs in the first.
Five different Hornets had multi-hit games and five Hornets drove in at least two runs. Six Hornets scored at least two runs.
Heren led the attack, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBI. She hit two doubles and a triple.
Kelsey Alexander went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Alexander hit Saline’s first homerun of the season. Brooke Bauer went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Alex Pace went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double. Isabella Darmos went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI. Emma Schwartzenberger walked four times.
Katie Bauer, Cobello and Lindsay Rittenhouse also had hits for Saline.
Cobello started the game. She pitched three innings and gave up nine runs (3 earned) on seven hits and five walks. She struck out one. Pace earned the win in relief. She pitched two scoreless, hitless innings and struck out two.
