Saline bounced back from an 11-0 loss and then held off a late charge from Monroe to win the nightcap, 7-6, as the Hornets split a doubleheader at Monroe.
Not much went well for Saline in the opener. The Trojans tagged starter Dani Cobello for nine runs -- only four of which were earned -- in 2/3 of an inning. Alex Pace pitched the final 3 1/3 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks. Pace struck out one.
Kelsey Alexander doubled and Ashley Heren singled for Saline.
Saline bounced back in the second game.
Pace pitched seven innings, allowing six runs -- just one earned -- on eight hits and three walks. She struck out one.
Brooke Bauer and Kelsey Alexander each had two hits for Saline, with Alexander hitting her second double of the day for an RBI.
Maddie Shelton and Emma Schwarzenberger each drove in two runs. Heren and Cobello also had hits. Pace drove in a run.
Saline led 7-4 going into the bottom of the seventh. Monroe started the inning with a single. The next batter reached on an error in rightfield, allowing a run to score. That batter later scored on a ground ball. Pace got the last batter out on a flyball to Alexander in centerfield.
