Stemmer Scores 24 as Saline Opens SEC Red Schedule With Win at Pioneer

Freshman Ella Stemmer continues to pour in the points for the Saline girls varsity basketball team.

The Saline varsity girls basketball team opened the SEC Red season with a 55-48 victory at Pioneer Friday.

Freshman Ella Stemmer scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Hornets, who improved to 3-3. Stemmer also had five rebounds and four assists.

Senior Brooke Bauer scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds while being credited for playing a “phenomenal defensive game.” Kelsey Alexander had seven steals and four points.

Also scoring were Nicole Sweetland (five points) and Erin Reilly and Maddy Welch (four points each). Leeya Lawson also had a point.

Stemmer scored nine of her 24 points in the first quarter to help Saline to a 19-10 lead. She hadded seven points in the second quarter as the Hornets extended their lead to 31-16.
