TRACK & FIELD: Saline Girls Defeat Monroe for First SEC Red Win of the Season

The Saline girls picked up their first SEC Red dual meet victory, defeating Monroe, 105-32, at Saline High School Tuesday.

Freshman Madi Wood and junior Emily Cook each won two events on the track to lead Saline. The Hornets won every race in the competition.

Greta Downey won the 100-meter sprint in 13.18. Charlotte Rittenhouse and Emily Cook placed second and third.

Lauryn Hunt won the 200-meter sprint in 26.23 – besting teammate Amera Boyd by .5 seconds. Suzanne Churparkoff was third in 27.23.

Madi Wood, usually a distance runner, ran the 400 meters and won in 1:01.15. Steffi Bentley finished third.

In the 800 meters, Ella Woehlke won in 2:28.86. Katelyn Szafranski and Lydia Alig finished second and third.

Emma Cummings, Kayla Fortino and Claire Endres ran the 1600-meters race together, with Cummings winning in 5:40.8. Fortino was second and Endres was third.

Wood and Madison Stern tied for first in the 3200 meters. The two freshmen completed the race in 11:47.22. Nicole Dillmann was third.

Cook won the 100 hurdles in 17.29 seconds. Molly Finegan was second and Tenley Schrzan was third. Cook won the 300 meter hurdles in 4967. Schrzan was second in 51.33 seconds. Saline not only won all three relays – the took the top three places in three of the four relays, and top places in the 4-by-200 relay.

Charlotte Peterson won the pole vault by clearing nine feet. Elise Renberg was second, clearing 8 feet. Greta Downey leaped 16-07.5 to win the long jump.

Ashley Hannah was second in the discus (88-01) and Morgan Boze was third in the shot put (28-0.25).
