Danny Poupore -- the winningest wrestler in Saline High School history -- went out as a winner. The Saline senior lost his second match at the MHSAA wrestling finals at Ford Field Friday. Poupore, wrestling at 130 pounds, bounced back with four straight wins to take third place - his best finish ever at the state finals.
Poupore, a four-time all-state wrestler, kept his podium hopes alive with a 9-1 decision over Southgate's Logan Palshan on Friday evening.
Saturday, Poupore took care of business. He earned a 10-3 victory over Birmingham's Damon Dunbar. Then he won a 9-4 decision over Romeo's Hunter Garris.
That victory vaulted Poupore into the match for third place, where he won a 3-2 decision over Lapeer's Hunter Hoffman.
Poupore, who won his 168th match on Jan. 27 to set a new Saline High School record. Since then he's added 20 wins to his record to finish at 188-19.
