Two Saline wrestlers finished on the podium at the MHSAA Wrestling Finals held at The Palace of Auburn Hills from Thursday-Saturday.
Senior Dylan Powers, 43-3, finished fourth in the 189-pound weight class. Junior Daniel Poupore, 46-5, finished fifth in the 125-pound weight class.
Powers and Poupore both started the tournament with a 2-0 record and then lost in the semifinals to the eventual state champion
After falling in the semifinals, Powers won a 3-2 decision over Chris Hackney (52-6) to advance to the consolation finals, where he lost a 3-1 decision to Hartland’s Andrew Spisz (54-6).
After falling in the semifinals, Poupore lost a 3-1 decision to Nick Barrett (51-9). Poupore then won a 1-0 decision over James Samuels to place fifth.
Powers ends his Saline career with two all state finishes (6th in 2016, 4th in 2017). He was also district and regional champion as a senior. Powers was a member of four team district championships.
Poupore had his best finish yet at the state meet. As a sophomore he was seventh at 119 pounds and as a freshman he was seventh at 103 pounds.
