WRESTLING: Sabin Wins SEC Title at 215 as Hornets Take Second

Zach Sabin won his weight class as Saline wrestled in the SEC championships Saturday at Pinckney.

Saline finished second to Bedford in team scoring, with the Mules scoring 283 points to Saline’s 161.5. Chelsea finished third with 137.5.

Sabin, 34-2, defeated Dexter’s Mark Young, 30-5, with an 8-6 decision, in the championship match of the 215-pound division.

Cade Gilless, 20-3, took second place in the 171-pound division. He suffered an injury in the third period of his match with Chelsea’s Shane Nold.

Josh Brannan (16-5) also reached the finals and took second in the 189-pound division. Brannan lost to Bedford’s Colin Jagielski (34-1).

Saline’s other second-place finish came from Brent Marvin (33-11), who lost in the championship to Bedford’s Nahan Gerber.

Finishing third were Brett Thornell (26-12, 119 pounds) and Luke Hoyt (28-11, 135 pounds).

Finishing fourth were Clayton Jarvey (21-17, 125 pounds) and Adam Singer (27-16, 140 pounds)

Finishing sixth were Emme Hicks (22-21, 103 pounds) and Jaden Malinczak (14-21, 130 pounds), Julius Burtell (25-19, 152 pounds), and Blake Wilson ( 17-15, 160 pounds).
