The City of Saline closed two riverfront parks due to flooding after a steady rain fell on frozen ground in Saline Saturday.

Runoff rushed to the Saline River, causing the banks to swell. Police closed Mill Pond Park and Curtiss Park Saturday afternoon.

According to the United States Geological Survey page for the Saline River, discharge rose from less than 100 cubic feet per second Friday to nearly 1,500 on Saturday. As a result, the river's height, measured by a gage, rose from less than six feet to over 11 feet.
