Andrew James Harper received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, August 17, 2015, at a ceremony at VFW Post 423 in Ann Arbor, MI.  

City officials have been working for months on plans to improve small paved and bricked piece of property between the back of Merchant Square, Smoke BBQ, Oxygen Plus, and the parking lot.  The property is owned by Bill Kinley, owner of Merchant Square, and leased to city for $1 a year. The lease was recently extended 20 years until 2047.

Dispatching for the SPD was an unexpected and meaningful third act in Sandy Wood’s career. She’d worked answering phones and running liens for the Ann Arbor Police Department in the 1970s. Then she co-owned a cleaning business for 20 years, until the physical demands proved too great.  In 2002, with former Ann Arbor Police Department associates Paul Bunten and Jack Ceo at the helm of the SPD, Wood decided she wanted to return to public service. There was an opening in Saline for a dispatcher.

He lives in Ann Arbor and his office is in Ypsilanti, but Bill Kinley has his finger on the pulse of Saline more than most Saline residents. Recently he spoke to the Post about his vision for the city. Kinley owns numerous Saline buildings, including Murphy’s Crossing, Merchant Square and Brecon Grille. He is co-owner of The Oaks shopping center. In addition, his construction company built the City Hall/police station building and the Brecon Village Memory Support Center.

Paul Elkow, owner of the proposed Deer Ridge subdivision in York Township, did not receive much sympathy from the York Township Board at their regular meeting August 11. He has already sold a few of the homes on the development, on the north side of Judd Road, between Warner and Moon Roads.

The Pittsfield Township board held a public hearing at its regular meeting August 12 for a proposed marijuana dispensary in the township. The township zoning board denied the application of Great Lakes Alternative Medicine for approval to operate a dispensary at 4825 Washtenaw Ave.

City officials, past and present, say the long-time city attorney had a profound impact on Saline.
