Saline High School Inducts 71 New Members to National Honor Society
Saline Area Schools inducted 71 new members to the Saline High School Chapter of the National Honor Society on Wednesday May, 8. (See list of senior honorees below.)
Prospective National Honor Society members must first meet the initial “Scholarship” benchmark by achieving a cumulative un-weighted GPA of 3.7 after the second trimester of sophomore year. Students who meet this requirement will automatically receive an invitation to complete the NHS Application. The application process includes a rigorous review of each applicant’s service, leadership, and character qualities. Letters from community members and evaluations by faculty members are just components of the comprehensive process.
All current members must maintain the minimum grade point average, attend all mandatory meetings and functions, and abide by the chapter bylaws as agreed upon by their acceptance of membership. Members must exhibit the high standard of scholarship, leadership, and character that initially proved them worthy of membership, throughout their tenure in the chapter. More information can be found at the new NHS website, www.SalineNHS.com
“We will be inducting 71 new members into the Saline High School NHS, and it is a distinct pleasure to work with a group of such accomplished and dedicated students," said Saline High School teacher and National Honor Society Advisor Mark Messmore. "It has been both professionally and personally rewarding to work with this group. I am proud of our outgoing seniors and I am looking forward to a great year ahead with the inductees.”
Saline High School Principal Julie Helber echoed Mr. Messmore’s comments.
“We are very proud of the current and new Saline High School NHS members. The dedication they demonstrate to their studies, community, and school is a positive reflection of our student body as a whole,” said Helber.
The Saline Area Schools is composed of 5,250 students with 325 certified staff. Saline was recently named the “Best Place to Raise Kids in Michigan by Bloomberg Businessweek. Its website is www.salineschools.org.
