Hornets Prepare for Unbeaten Monroe Trojans

Coach Joe Palka talks with Hornet Radio host Chris Schmidbauer wrap up the Bedford game and preview Friday’s game at Monroe on HornetFootball Insider. Assistant coach Kevin Koger is also on the show.

Saline (4-1 overall, 2-1 SEC) faces the SEC’s only remaining unbeaten team at Monroe (5-0 overall, 3-0 in the SEC).

Palka said Monroe has a big offensive line and fast running backs. Monroe runs the Wing-T and runs a lot of play action.

He also said the Hornets are having a good week of practice and will be ready for Friday’s game.

You can listen to the show here.

Here’s Monroe’s season to date.

Monroe 34 Detroit Southeastern 13

Monroe 42 Lansing Sexton 41

Monroe 47 Ypsilanti 6

Monroe 61 Skyline 29

Monroe 42 Ann Arbor Huron 25

A Look Ahead

Saline is in good shape for a playoff spot. With four wins already and two games left against struggling teams (Huron and Skyline), it would seem the six-win prerequisite for the playoffs is a good bet, though you won’t catch anyone on the Hornets taking any game for granted. A win against Monroe and the two struggling teams would give the Hornets a great shot at home playoff game.

Here is Saline’s closing schedule

Sept . 28 at Monroe (5-0)

Oct. 5 vs Huron (0-5)

Oct. 12 at Skyline (1-4)

Oct. 19 vs Novi  (1-4)

The Hornets last made the playoffs in 2010. Saline hasn't posted a seven-win season since 2006, when the team was 7-2 before winning two more games in the playoffs for a total of nine.
