AUDIO: Fire Chief Hoeft Stirs the Pot, Burns Officer Small With Chili Contest Talk
Like a prizefighter at the weigh in, Fire Chief and School Board Trustee Craig Hoeft burned his opponents in the upcoming Firemen's Chili Challenge at Oktoberfest.
During board member remarks at Tuesday's school board meeting, Hoeft reminded people about the annual chili contest, during which Saline firefighters pair up with culinary arts students to make chili. In recent years, Pittsfield Police have also joined in the contest, which Hoeft noted when he saw Pittsfield Police officer and Saline High School resource officer Tiffany Small in the audience. Hoeft let everyone know that the police have yet to win anything at the contest.
"I should clarify this," Hoeft said. "Being a police officer, she's probably really good at pastries," Hoeft said.
Check out the chili challenge in downtown Saline (behind Benny's) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Proceeds from the sale help fund a $500 scholarship for a student going into the culinary arts field.
