Saline hit the road once again and traveled to Portage to attend one of the largest meets in the Midwest. Teams from all over the state including a few out-of-state teams toed the line this Saturday morning.
The drizzly, sub-50 degree weather did not bother senior, Grant Praschan, who ran an all time personal best by 18 seconds by covering five kilometer course in 15:52.
Senior teammates, Dylan Jennings and Anthony Lamus also placed in top twenty of the 262 man field, acquiring 16th and 17th overall with the times of 16:02.4 and 16:02.8.
“I wasn’t too worried about how they’d place individually or as a team; I was more concerned with just running tough today. And the boys did that today,” said Saline boys head coach Carl Spina.
All seven boys from Saline ran a career or season best today.
“Those boys in the top seven are coming along so quickly,” noted Spina.
Also medaling for the Hornets, were senior, Andrew Kitto and sophomore, Kevin Hall. Kitto placed 41st with a time of 16:25 and Hall crossed the finish line in 47th with a time of 16:28.
Rounding out the top 7 for Saline were senior Matt Elms who ran a career best of 16:35 and junior John Dolsen running a 16:53.
In team scoring, Saline captured second place out of the thirty eight team field, falling to Hilliard Davidson of Cincinnati, Ohio with the score of 106 to 129. Rockford took third with 160 and Grand Blanc was fourth with 174. Ann Arbor Pioneer rounded out the top five with a score of 212.
“It would have been nice to win. We have never won at Portage so it would have been nice, but I’m still very proud with how they ran,” said Spina.
For the reserve race, Saline invited a limited squad to compete. Top runners for the boys in the reserve race were senior Patrick Dunn placing third overall with a time of 17:12.1. Junior Sean Dew was right behind him in fourth with a time a 17:12.6. Also placing in the top ten were sophomores Brennan Corcoran and Colin Burnett with the times of 17:18 and 17:24 placing 7th and 10th.
Rounding out the top five, was junior Kaj Althaus placing 11th with a time of 17:25.
Up next for the Hornets, will be Pre-Regional River Rat Invitational at Willow Metro Park in Huron Township.
