Saline's first Main Street Manager has resigned, according to a news release issued by the downtown revitalzation organization's board of directors.
The Saline Main Street Board accepted the resignation of Kelly Idzikowski, effective immediately. The board voted to fill the position as soon as possible, according to the release.
"She realized that this position just wasn't a good fit her and that she wanted to pursue other avenues," said Cindy Czubko, President of the Saline Main Street Board. "We wish her all the best."
Idzikowski's resignation comes just days before Main Street's first major event -- Saline Oktoberfest and Harvest of the Arts.
Czubko said Idzikowski's resignation will not impact the weekend's festivities.
"She already did the things she was responsible for. So at this stage, it's all in the volunteer's hands and they are all ready to put on a great weekend of fun," Czubko said.
More than 100 volunteers will help put on Oktoberfest and Harvest of the Arts Friday and Saturday in downtown Saline.
Czubko said the Main Street Board interviewed several highly qualified candidates before hiring Idzikowski last summer. She said the board will contact a couple of those applicants about the position. If that doesn't result in a new manager, the board will start the hiring process from scratch.
Idzikowski was hired by the new organization this summer. She'd worked for the Old Town Main Street organization in Lansing while studying at Michigan State University.
Saline Main Street is a volunteer-driven organization whose focus is to enhance the vitality of downtown Saline as the social, cultural and economic heart of our community.
The Saline Main Street volunteers have been busy identifying projects and creating work plans to execute the projects. The board will review the final work plans at its board meeting on Oct. 9. Once the work plans and budgets are approved, many projects and initiatives will be set in motion, according to the news release.
Saline Main Street was accepted as a State of Michigan Main Street Select Level community and officially kicked off the program in May. Since then, volunteers have attended training for the Board and all four Teams, facilitated a Baseline Assessment with the National and State program in the community, managed the Downtown Summer Music Series, submitted a grant for improvements for a Downtown Alley project, is working with the Saline Downtown Merchant’s Association to organize this year’s Oktoberfest | Harvest of the Arts Festival, and created a volunteer sponsor program. The Saline Main Street board will be holding a ‘Town Meeting’ in October to share the baseline assessment results and the 2012-2013 work plans.
