The Saline boys’ cross country team headed down to Munson Park hosted by Monroe High School for the second of three jamborees to decide the Southeastern Conference Champion.
For the second meet in a row and third time this year, senior Anthony Lamus was the first Hornet to cross the finish line placing third overall with a time of sixteen minutes and twenty seconds.
Like usual, fellow senior teammates Dylan Jennings and Grant Praschan were right behind him placing fourth and fifth overall with the times of 16:21 and 16:23.
Sophomore Kevin Hall finished fourth for the Hornets with a time of a 16:47 that placed 8th overall.
Senior, Matt Elms was the final scorer for Saline placing 10th overall with a time of 17:03 and securing Saline with five top ten finishes.
In overall team action, the boys varsity claimed their second overall jamboree victory with a score of 30 to 41 over Ann Arbor Pioneer. Bedford was third with 96.
“It’s great to see that they can handle adversity missing (senior) Andrew Kitto in the lineup and still performing well,” head coach Carl Spina said after the race. “The seniors (Lamus, Jennings, Praschan) came out and did their job. But Kevin Hall, Matt Elms, and John Dolsen really stepped up today. We take a lot of pride in our depth and it turned out to be really useful today."
Individually taking eleven of the top twelve overall spots, including the top six spots respectively. Junior, Matt Wilson took top individual honors with a time 17:27. Sophomore, Brennan Corcoran crossed six later for second place.
Junior, Thomas Furey placed fourth with 17:36 and one second behind was sophomore teammate, Diego Morse in 17:37.1.
Freshman Brian Blankenship and Bryan Adamovicz rounded out the top six for Saline with times of 17:37.9 and 17:45.
With two SEC Jamborees to their name, the Hornets are on pace for another SEC championship.
In just a few days some of the runners will head to Huron Meadows Park in Brighton for the Legends Invitational this Saturday, while the varsity rests and gets ready for one of the biggest meets in the state on Oct. 6; the Portage Invitational.
